Ethan Burns
Yoga began brightening my life the first time I encountered it, and, over years, I have practiced many different styles. When I was a beginner in 2005, it was all just yoga, and I liked it because, at the time, I couldn’t touch my toes and I knew yoga was helping my flexibility. I continued to Bikram, where not only could I touch my toes, but also laughed in disbelief when (after some time!) my face touched my shins. Next I began Ashtanga, the practice I remain most drawn to, which, in 2007, blew me away. Disciplining myself with 6:00 AM Ashtanga classes, I prepared for a trip to India. For three months I studied closely with my beloved and inspiring teacher Bharath Shetty, in the city of Mysore, immersed in yoga and its motherland. I continued my daily practice for 9 months in India, from the heat of Delhi to the thin air of the Himalaya. Coming home a YA certified teacher, I began leading classes in Asheville in 2009. Sinking roots into the amazing yoga resources here has allowed my practice to grow with influences from Anusara, Iyengar, Jivamukti, Ashtanga, and Vinyassa Flow.
I feel privileged now to share heated vinyassa flow classes with you all in Asheville. Although I honor the diverseness of yoga traditions in America, I don’t get too particular about what I call my class: it’s yoga. In my class you can expect a balanced and challenging series of yoga postures (asanas) that will develop your strength, flexibility, and mindfulness. The room is moderately hot, and the tempo is quick— expect to sweat, move, and explore. May yoga also brighten your life!
Besides the practice of yoga, I am also an avid rock climber, an adventurous outdoorsperson, a competitive Ultimate Frisbee player, a working photographer, and a professional educator of English with a BA and MA. I have lived in Asheville for 11 years, and share a blessed life with my wonderful partner Aiyanna. Still curious? More stories and photos at www.ethanburns.blogspot.com. Thanks, and namaste, ya’ll!
